Frequently asked questions

What is Holistic Integrative Medicine?

Dr. Weiss distinguishes between Integrative Medicine and Holistic Medicine, though the terms are often used interchangeably. Integrative Medicine typically refers to the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approaches—such as acupuncture, herbal therapies, or nutritional supplements—alongside conventional Western (allopathic) medicine. These CAM therapies are generally gentler and safer, and the focus is on combining the best of both worlds.

However, Holistic Medicine goes a step further. It not only incorporates CAM therapies, but also embraces the concept of holism—treating the whole person rather than just isolated symptoms or conditions. This includes addressing the physical body, the emotional and mental landscape, and the spiritual dimension of health and healing.

In Dr. Weiss’s approach, Holistic Medicine is not just about what treatments are used, but about how they are thoughtfully blended to support the entire human being—body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

Is Dr. Weiss a Functional Medicine doctor?

While Dr. Weiss has not undergone formal certification in Functional Medicine, he embraces its core principles—particularly the commitment to identifying and addressing the root causes of illness rather than simply treating symptoms. With over 30 years of clinical experience, he utilizes comprehensive diagnostic testing, including blood, urine, stool, and saliva analysis, to uncover underlying imbalances that contribute to a patient’s condition.

Dr. Weiss has extensive expertise in designing personalized treatment plans using targeted nutritional supplementation. He was trained in Wholistic Kinesiology by Master Kinesiologist Dr. J. Dunn, D.C., a method that draws on the body’s innate intelligence to determine the most beneficial supplement combinations for each individual.

As part of his integrative approach, Dr. Weiss may incorporate Western and Ayurvedic herbs alongside nutritional support. He prioritizes natural therapies, recognizing that the human body has co-evolved with the plant kingdom over millions of years and often responds best to nature-based interventions.

What is Classical Homeopathy and how does Dr. Weiss use it in his practice?

Classical Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that aims to treat the whole person—body, mind, emotions, and spirit—by stimulating the body’s natural healing response. It is based on the Law of Similars, which means that a substance that causes specific symptoms in a healthy person can be used in extremely small doses to help a patient experiencing those same symptoms.

Dr. Weiss uses Classical Homeopathy to uncover and address the underlying cause of illness, rather than suppressing symptoms. He takes time to understand the unique pattern of each patient’s symptoms, personality, and constitution through an in-depth consultation process. Remedies are chosen carefully to match the totality of the individual’s experience.

With over 30 years of experience and advanced training in Classical Homeopathy, Dr. Weiss offers personalized, safe, and often profoundly effective care for both acute and chronic conditions.

Does Dr. Weiss work with both children and adults?

Yes, Dr. Stephen P Weiss, M.D. is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) as a family practice physician. Family medicine is a primary medical specialty dedicated to providing comprehensive and continuous healthcare for individuals and families across all ages, body systems, and medical conditions.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement therapy - BHRT?

Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones naturally produced by the human body. They are typically much better tolerated and considered safer than synthetic hormones manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. Conditions that often respond well to bioidentical hormone therapy include perimenopause, menopause, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), low libido, and erectile dysfunction.

What is BEMER therapy?

BEMER stands for Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation. BEMER is an FDA Class II cleared consumer medical device that, during an 8-minute session, sends a low-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field to the body in order to safely stimulate healthy muscles which temporarily enhances local blood flow, resulting in better disbursement of oxygen within the target tissues while supporting the elimination of CO2. Additional benefits from regular use of BEMER may include reduced stress, improved relaxation, optimized physical performance, enhanced muscle conditioning and physical fitness, and a better overall feeling of wellbeing.
