The Big Five-0
Truth be told, in spite of my brief encounter with Mr. Half Century, there is much to be grateful for these days, and with Thanksgiving approaching, I decided to share some of that gratitude with you. If you would like, I invite you to take a look at your own lives and come up with at least 5 people or things for which you are grateful. Don’t just go through the motions—really feel the e-motions that are released by acknowledging their presence in your lives and effects on you.

Taking the BS Out of IBS
Alternative Medical Practitioners understand that patients labeled with the IBS “diagnosis” are often done a disservice, because they frequently do suffer from a treatable condition that has gone undiagnosed, sometimes for years. Conventional physicians and Gastroenterologists are either unaware of certain specialized tests available to uncover the hidden causes of IBS, or they have decided that some of these causes don’t exist.

The New Weapon in the War on Bugs
In my previous articles I've discussed Classical Homeopathy's amazing ability to reverse severe chronic diseases present for years, and even decades. What about acute diseases such as strep throat, croup, pneumonia, ear infections and influenza? Can homeopathy cure these problems without you resorting to antibiotics, steroids, or other pharmaceuticals? Absolutely.

If All is Energy, Why am I so tired?
The medicine I practice is extremely individualized. By spending as much time with you as I do, I am able to clearly understand who you are as a person and discover the precise imbalances robbing you of your vitality and well-being. For instance, in this case Arsenicum worked just as it should, for Anna. It is not a cure-all remedy for panic, although it does help some people with a diagnosis of panic attacks. And it is particularly useful for anxiety that arises while drifting off to sleep which is so severe the person is convinced they are dying, especially when coupled with exhaustion.

Homeopathic Healing for the Whole Family
During the 4th and final year of medical school, students must decide what they want to do with their lives. I knew I wanted to practice Holistic/Integrative Medicine from the very first day of my Freshman year, so a Family Practice residency seemed best suited to prepare me for my future career. I also loved the idea of treating patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and of being able to get to know and care for entire families. What a privilege! Family Physicians were also the most open-minded doctors I had encountered, and I felt they would be most supportive of my maverick (spoken with a Minnesotan accent) tendencies.

Holistic Cardiology Healing the Lotus Deep Within the Heart
Buddha said the heart is the seat of the soul, so it must follow that, to heal the heart, one must also heal the soul. I think he knew what he was talking about.

Heart Disease –Treating an Ailment Close To Home
Ten years ago, a few days before I was preparing to leave for my first silent retreat with Gangaji, my spiritual teacher at the time, I received a call from my father. My mother’s gnawing abdominal pain, which had started two days earlier and was presumed by the emergency room doctor to be of gallbladder origin, had turned out to be a heart attack. A few hours later I received a call from David Rosenberg, the cardiologist who was treating her. As fate would have it, he and I had been medical school classmates.

Everyday Miracles
One of the great joys of being a Family Doctor is that I see patients of all ages with a variety of common and rare conditions. My day gets brighter and my heart opens a little wider when a child comes in to see me. Don’t get me wrong—not all kids have halos hovering over them—some carry pitchforks. But by and large, kids spice up my day with their spontaneity, intelligence, unbounded energy and endearing nature.

Enjoying the Alien Within
When you read the article I wrote in this issue Enjoying the Alien Within, you will directly experience the unbridled joy and passion I have for my work. You will discover how life-changing it is. You will learn the true meaning of Holistic Healing- what it really means to treat body, mind and spirit as one. You will be deeply moved, as I am when I am privileged to witness countless suffering individuals overcome even serious illnesses and reconnect with their authentic, creative, joyful selves. Its a rush; and an amazing feeling, day in and day out profoundly contribute to so many peoples lives and truly make a difference.

Do YOU Have Osteoporosis? Have YOU been tested?
We stopped in front of the DXA (bone density) machine, and after extolling its virtues, he encouraged me to get tested so I could experience the screening device first-hand. My eyes (and his) nearly popped out of their sockets two minutes later when the results came back. They showed that the bone density of my finger was 3.1 standard deviations below the mean of a young healthy woman, well into the osteoporosis range. You read that correctly—in 1999 there were no norms for men, in part because bone loss was erroneously thought to spare us.

And The Lion Laid Down With The Lamb
There are hundreds of remedies in homeopathy which can help violent or antisocial behavior, as well as eliminate childhood fears, but only 35 which treat the fear of being poisoned, and Stramonium is one of them. The key is to find what makes each patient uniquely themselves, and to find a remedy that completely matches their uniqueness. I havent seen Jacob in 16 months. An apple a day does indeed keep the doctor away!
